Clean Water Projects

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." - John 7:38

Why Water

Clean drinking water is essential for life. Over 6 million people in Ghana do not have access to clean drinking water.  Prior to our efforts, the only water available in many villages was dirty, contaminated water. It is still quite common in many areas to use one small unfiltered stream or stagnant body of water for drinking, cooking, and washing while livestock also utilize the same body of water.

In the 1990’s when we started our water well program, there were over 180,000 reported cases of a water borne illness called guinea worm that was rampant in our area. Currently there are less than 200 cases per year. Clean water reduces water-borne diseases and greatly impacts the overall well-being of people in many communities we serve.

How You Can Help

We can provide more clean water to communities and families if we own our own drilling rig. With a rig, we can put in water wells at a fraction of the current cost. Help us raise $250,000 to purchase a rig this year.

Background

Lawrence saw the need for clean water in Ateiku, through his own resources, he hired men to dig the first well by hand in Ateiku. That well is still working and serves over 800 families per day. With financial assistance from Rotary clubs and individuals in the late 90s, Lawrence continued to build wells in rural communities who were in desperate need for clean water. The Rural Evangelism Development Project has been able to drill more than 370 water wells in various communities, high schools, and major towns since then.

The cost for drilling one well starts at $7,500, but one water well will service an entire village and often two or three will serve a big town.

Currently, the drilling rigs we own are all out of commission. We have been forced to rent a rig each time we drill a water well. We are still looking for support to purchase a better rig which will better equip us to continue to provide clean water.

You will see images of our small red drilling machine which is no longer working, however we need a big truck drilling rig much like you see in the images.

Ways to Support our Water Projects

  • Drill a well in honor of a loved one for $6,000

  • Contribute to Drilling Rig Fund

  • We need small pick-up trucks and trailers for our water crew to work effectively, lend your influence if you can help us acquire the necessary equipment.
